February 15: The Davidson College Jazz Ensemble with Tim Gordon

St. Valentine's Day Concert | February 15, 2015 at 3:00 pm

The Davidson College Jazz Ensemble consists of about 20 Davidson College students, many of whom also perform in the Davidson College Symphony Orchestra; others form the core of the Davidson Jazz Combo.

As a subset of the Jazz Ensemble, the Jazz Combo focuses upon the more intimate and improvisatory
aspects of jazz that have hallmarked the genre since the early 50’s. The Combo was recently honored to be invited to perform at a live taping of the popular NPR show Says You.

The Jazz Ensemble’s annual highlight is its Residency Concert. Through a unique relationship with Berkley
College of Music, whose president is a Davidson College alumnus, a prominent Berkley faculty member or
alumnus spends several days in residence, culminating in a public concert. The group’s guest artist for 2013 was renowned saxophonist Grace Kelly. Tim Gordon will join the ensemble for the St. Valentine’s Concert. As one whose work is wonderfully expressive and creative, he is celebrated as one of the best saxophonists in the region.
