The 2013 season of Trinity Artist Series opens with a display of art work by Willard Gayheart, Appalachian pencil artist, along with the music of his fine group, Skeeter and the Skidmarks. Named the “Norman Rockwell of Appalachia” by The Washington Post, Willard has drawn from his childhood memories growing up in Hazard, Kentucky to capture with authenticity the spirit and strength of mountain people. His subjects are often mountain musicians because of his association with music; however, those who attend his show will be invited also into the daily lives of ordinary people at work and at play. And they will certainly be amazed at what Gayheart can do with a #2 pencil. Willard spends his days drawing in his Front Porch Studio in Woodlawn, Virginia and playing for audiences at the Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Galax.

Also participating in the musicians’ group are Edwin Lacey, Scott Freeman, and Sandy Glover. Lacey is superb on banjo. Freeman plays both blue grass and old time music on fiddle and mandolin, and Glover is the energetic bass player. Willard anchors on guitar. The audience will surely enjoy a toe tapping time at this family friendly event.
